Kathmandu, Sept 2 ,,   The Federal Parliament in Nepal has initiated the process to form the Parliamentary Friendship Group in those countries having Nepalese embassy and those foreign diplomatic missions having resident embassies in Nepal.
Speaker at the federal parliament, Krishna Bahadur Mahara here today initiated the process by declaring the names of the Parliamentarians who are in the Nepal-Australia Parliamentary Friendship network.
The Group will be led by Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) leader and lawmaker Bhim Rawal and will comprise lawmakers Yogesh Bhattarai, Jayapuri Gharti, Pushpa Bhusal, Surendra Raj Pandey, Lekhraj Bhatta and Umesh Shrestha among others.
On the occasion, Speaker Mahara expressed his confidence that the newly formed Parliamentary Friendship Group between Nepal and Australia would contribute towards further strengthening the bilateral ties between these two countries.
Mahara said, “We would like the top leaders of the political parties to lead the Parliamentary Friendship Groups. Such Groups would certainly support in the exchange of experience about the parliamentary practices in both cThe Groups play a significant role in establishing and maintaining strong relationships with foreign parliaments and parliamentarians, through active engagement with parliaments all around the world and with members of the diplomatic community.
Likewise, Nepali Ambassador to Australia Lucky Sherpa termed the formation of the Group to be historic and new practice in the diplomatic history between Nepal and Australia.
Australian ambassador to Nepal Peter Budd believed that the newly formed Group would be useful to obtain information about the parliamentary practices in the both countries and determining the development areas and promotion of tourism.
Similarly, Australia has formed a 37-member Parliamentary Group.
In the first phase, Parliamentary Friendship Groups would be formed with India, China and Australia, according to the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
Each such Group will have 15-members from Nepal’s side.
The event was attended by the political leaders representing in the Federal Parliament, Federal Parliament Secretariat’s Secretary General and representatives from the Australian Embassy in Nepal.
