Kathmandu, Aug 25 ,, Main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to call its Mahasamiti (the party’s highest policy-making body) meet in Kathmandu on coming November 21-25.
Today’s meeting of the central committee chaired by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba took the decision and formed different committees as part of the preparation for the same.
In this connection, the party has formed a Mahasamiti meet main preparation committee under the leadership of President Deuba while Vice-President and Central Policy and Training Academy (CPTA) Bimalendra Nidhi is entrusted to coordinate political proposal preparation committee, shared NC Spokesperson Biswo Prakash Sharma.
Likewise, the party has decided that its general secretary Dr Shashank Koirala and treasurer Sita Devi Yadav will present organizational report and financial report in the meet, respectively.
Similarly, the NC has formed party’s overall economic policy drafting committee under the coordination of joint-secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat.
Sharma further informed that the party central committee meeting has decided to add two districts Presidents of the party to the statute amendment drafting committee keeping in mind the proposal of the national gathering of the districts presidents held in Hetauda.
The party has also decided to form a local management committee under the coordination of NC Kathmandu President with the district Presidents of Lalitpur and Bhaktapur as members.
On another note, NC has demanded fair investigation into the incident of rape and subsequent murder of 13-year-old girl Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur and bring into book the culprits of the incident. Also, the party has demanded relief and compensation to the family of innocent Sanni Khuna who was killed in police firing over public protest against the rape and murder incident.
Calling for the government to arrange medical treatment to all those injured in the incident, NC has wished for the speedy recovery of all the wounded.
Likewise, the party has decided to send central member duo, Dilendra Prasad Badu and Bir Bahadur Balayar to carry out on-site study of the Kanchanpur incident and present the report to the party.
Drawing a conclusion that some of the provisions of the Civil (Code) Act effective from August 17 are likely to affect the freedom of the press, hurt the dignity of the doctors and influence police investigations, the main opposition has urged the government to initiate necessary process for its amendment.
The central committee meeting has cautioned all three-tier of governments to not create additional financial burden to the people through imposition of two or three-fold of taxes and also concluded that the baseless increment in tax would negatively affect the livelihood of people and discourage investors.
NC has also congratulated former cricket captain Imran Khan on being elected as the new Prime Minister of Nepal’s friendly country, Pakistan.
NC has also drawn the attention of the government towards delay in formation of national natural resource and fiscal commission.
Next meeting is to be held at the party office in Sanepa at 11.00 am on September 6, Sharma informed.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress Province-7 parliamentary party leader Dr Rana Bahadur Rawal has urged all to exercise restrain to prevent the Kanchanpur incident from further dreadful.
Issuing a press statement today, Dr Rawal expressed condolence to the bereaved families of Nirmala Panta and Sanni Khuna and wished for the speedy recovery of those hurt in the incident. –
