Eid al-Fitr will further strengthen social harmony: President Bhandari / Prime Minister Oli extends greetings on Eid

KATHMANDU,: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said that Eid al-Fitr would encourage to further strengthen social harmony, brotherhood and mutual cooperation among religious and cultural diversities of Nepalis living at different places in the world.

In a best wishes message today on the occasion of the great festival of Muslims, President Bhandari wished for happiness, prosperity, good health and long life to all Nepali Muslims living at home and abroad.

It was the responsibility of all Nepalis to follow the health-related rules unveiled by the government of Nepal to be safe from COVID-19 pandemic, read the message by the President.

The President expressed the belief that all should celebrate the festival by remaining at home by following the lockdown order with calm and patience.

Meanwhile, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has expressed the hope that the Muslim community would observe Eid al-Fitr at home over COVID-19 risks. In a message of best wishes to all Islam followers on this occasion today, the Vice President stressed the need for the community to celebrate this festival with health precaution as the country is under lockdown due to the infection.

“May this festival bring happiness, peace, prosperity and progress to all Islam followers and all Nepalis at home and abroad,” he said in the message of greetings, adding that festivals and cultures of various communities have been additionally strengthening mutual tolerance and national unity among all Nepalis.

He also extended his condolence to those Nepalis who have lost their lives from the infection in Nepal and abroad. He has wished for speedy recovery of the infected ones. There is no need for all to come together to fight and win this battle against the virus, read the message

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended best wishes to Nepali Muslim community within and outside the country on the occasion of the Eid-al-Fitr festival today.

The ninth month on the Islamic calendar is called ‘Ramadan’, during which, believers abstain from eating and drinking during daylight hours. Eid-al-Fitr celebrations depend on the sighting of the moon.

The festival imparts the message of peace and fraternity. In the greeting message, the PM said Nepal is a beautiful country with multi-lingual, multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-cultural and geographical diversity, and expressed his belief that it ensures religious freedom and rights of Muslims.

He suggested that such festivals are underlying identities of unification and religious forbearance, and thus, such assets should be utilised in making the country prosperous.

The PM expressed commitment to carrying on with “Happy Nepali-Happy Nepal” campaign in his Eid message.

“May this Eid festival give inspiration to all the Muslims in Nepal to become united in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic,” the PM stated.

He urged the Muslim community to observe the Eid al-Fitr by maintaining social distancing and safety protocols.
