Kathmandu, Dec 7,,   The National Assembly’s Delegated Management and Government Assurance Committee today visited the Tribhuvan University central library.
According to committee president Ramnarayan Bidari, the visit was for studying archives of historic importance documented in the library. The committee team found the absence of proper measures to protect the library.
The physical structure damaged by the 2015 earthquake has not been restored; the relations established through internet with libraries of other countries are on the verge of divorce and the library is yet to be developed in the technology-friendly facility.
Important handwritten manuscripts and some other documents with gold alphabets dating back to the 16 the century have been stored in the library. The committee fears that such historic antiques may get damaged due to lack of proper preventive measures.
The committee would call on the government to work for its strengthening, making it technology-friendly. The team comprised members Suman Raj Pyakurel, Durga Prasad Upadhyay and Radheshyam Adhikari. TU vice chancellor Dr Tirtha Raj Khaniya, Rector Dr Sudha Tripathi and registrar Dilliram Upreti apprised the committee about challenges the university was facing for the proper care of library.
