Kathmandu, Oct 25 Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa honoured ten armies of several ranks with the “Chief of Army Staff Commendation Badge”. The members in the team which had won the gold medal in the recent ‘Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2019’ held in Wales of the United Kingdom from October 11 to 20 were presented the Badge. The squad had won the gold in the ‘Cambrian Patrol 60’. The Exercise which was attended by 140 military teams from several 34 countries including the UK and Nepal is considered the world standard and the rigorous competition. The NA has been participating in the competition since 2014. It is being held since 1960 AD. The awarded are team leader Lieutenant Colonel Asimdeep Gurung, Captain Kasam Shrestha, Warrant Officer 2 Basant Rawat, Sergeant Niroj Adhikari, Lance Corporals Yubin Amgai, Pradeep Kumar Darlami, Arjun Moktan, Dhruba Adhikari, and soldiers Kaushal Bhujel and Santosh Shrestha. Chief of Army Staff Thapa, presenting the commendation badge to these army personnel at a special ceremony held at the Army Headquarters today, thanked and congratulated the personnel winning the gold medal, for playing a crucial role in introducing Nepali Army’s glorious history in a lively manner before the world. “It has been the history of the Nepali Army to attain high success by resolutely facing up to the challenges presenting itself in an audacious and competitive manner in a very difficult and challenging exercise. This history should be maintained in the coming days as well,” the Chief of Army Staff said. Exercise Cambrian Patrol is the premier patrolling event of the British Army which is held in Wales and hosted by Headquarters 160th (Welsh) Brigade. The aim of The Cambrian Patrol is to provide a challenging patrols exercise in order to enhance operational capability. The event has evolved into a cost-effective, ready-made exercise that Commanding Officers can use to test the basic training standards of their soldiers, in preparation for future operations. It is mission focused and scenario-based, with role players used to enhance the training benefit. Additional skills assessed in the competition include: Dismounted Close Combat Skills; Obstacle crossing drills; First aid and CasEvac procedures; Recognition of aircraft, vehicles and equipment; C-IED/Minefield awareness; Patrol Techniques; Captured persons (CPERS) Handling; Helicopter drills; Media handling; CBRN drills; SERE skills; Radio communications skills; Artillery Target Indication procedures and Working with vehicles. The Nepali Army was represented in the Exercise by teams from Shree Special Force Brigade, Shree Pashupati Prasad Battalion and Gauri Baks Company, The Army Public Relations Directorate stated.
