Newar community welcomes public holiday on Kijapuja

Kathmandu, Oct 25  The Nepal Sambat Nhuda National Celebration Committee 1140 has welcomed the government’s announcement of a public holiday on Bhaitika celebrated by the Newar community that falls on October 30 this year. The government was positive and addressed the Committee’s demand for announcing a public holiday on Bhaitika celebrated by the Newar community, and the government’s this step has spread a message that all should respect and embrace cultural tradition and rituals, said Committee’s Chairperson Ramesh Maharjan in a statement today. The statement has also asked the Panchanga Nirnayak Samiti (calendar determination committee) to seek earlier solutions accordingly when there are changes in dates in the lunar calendar. All Newar community has also been asked to observe Nepal Sambat on October 29 with fanfare and take part in a cultural rally at Basantapur at 7am on the same day.
