Smugglers’ gang beat policemen, take away their rifle in Birgunj

Birgunj, Dec 18,,  The gang of smugglers who were interrupted by the police while they were smuggling petroleum products at 3 this morning at Birgunj have absconded by beating the policemen and taking away their rifle.
According to the District Police Office (DPO), Parsa, the policemen deployed by the Police Post at Pithariguthi of the district on a tip off had reached the site where the smugglers were learned to smuggle the petroleum products to Indian bordering market, Inarwa.
A confrontation had ensued between the policemen and some 40 smugglers after the former tried to stop the smuggling. The conflict escalated when three more policemen from Pangdepur joined the police force.
The smugglers then had beaten the policemen with sticks and fled the scene looting their three-nought-three rifle.
Superintendent of Police at DPO, Parsa Rewati Dhakal said that Sub-Inspector of Police Bishnudev Yadav, police constables Prem Bahadur Rana and Arjun Chaudhary were hurt in the incident and currently receiving treatment at the National Medical College and Neuro Hospital at Birgunj.
Police are searching for the smugglers.
