Kathmandu, April 25 ,, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Banskota, has stressed the need of ending discrimination against women in practice. Addressing a programme organised by Nepal Telecom Authority here today on the occasion of ‘International Girls in ICT Day’, Minister Banskota said that the government and bodies concerned would take initiatives to end discrimination against women in a practical manner.
“Right to education, health, citizenship and property has been guaranteed to women legally. But all should stand together to resolve problem to end discrimination in a practical manner,” the Communications Minister said. Furthermore, participation of women should be increased in ICT sector to end corruption.
Similarly, NTA Chair Purushottam Khanal expected support of all sectors to make the ‘Digital Nepal’ campaign launched by the government a success. Different organisations, contributing in the IT sector, were honoured on the occasion.
Earlier, a morning rally was organised where participants carried placards reading various slogans including ‘Let women join hands for ICT and unleashing development in the country’, ‘Let us assure children future from ICT’, ‘Participation of adolescent girls in ICT; effectiveness in the making of digital Nepal’ and ‘Women’s access to technology, translating digital Nepal’s dream into action’.
