Birgunj, Sept. 17 ,, Despite institutionalizing republicanism, secularism, proportional representation and inclusion in the Constitution of Nepal as per the demands and aspirations of the people, people of different walks of life from Province No. 2 have called for amendment to the constitution to consolidate the demands of the people from the region.
Internal Affairs and Law Minister Gyanendra Kumar Yadav of the province said that amendment was needed to this constitution though it is excellent in the contents. Talking briefly to RSS ahead of the third anniversary of the promulgation of constitution, Yadav pointed out the need for amending constitution on matters concerning right to self-determination, federalism, issues of marginalized communities, delineation of provinces, proportional representation and distribution of resources.
Minister Yadav shared that country would not achieve prosperity until the genuine concerns of the Madhesi communities were addressed although the theoretical domains of social and economic aspects were accommodated in the constitution.
Likewise, Parsa district president of opposition Nepali Congress said that NC registered the amendment motion to amend those pertinent issues in the constitution.
Similarly, Parsa district coordinator of Nepal Communist Party Prabhu Hajara said that the real issues of the citizens should be addressed immediately though there are many things to amend in the constitution.
Furthermore, Associate Professor of Mahendra Bindeshwori Multiple Campus, Rajbiraj, Shyamsundar Shashi said that challenges remain ahead by implementing the statute.”The provinces’ own laws should be drafted after the federalism in the country which should be compatible to the federal laws and the constitution should be amended as there was not compatibility,” Shahi argued.
However, chairman of Federation of Nepali Journalists of Province No. 2 Dipendra Chauhan said that the decision of the Madhes-centric parties to mark the constitution day as the black day was an act to insult the Madhesi communities and added that it was unclear whether the Madhesi parties want amendment to the constitution or not since they have joined the government and have backed the government.
