‘Visit Lumbini Year-2076’ campaign reaches Kathmandu

The ‘Visit Lumbini Year-2076’ Campaign has reached the central capital city of Kathmandu. The drive aims to attract domestic and foreign visitors to Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, the apostle of peace. The slogan for the campaign is ‘Go to Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, spread a message of peace’. As part of the drive, a road show was organised in Durbarmarga in Kathmandu. An idol of Buddha, and a big image of Mayadevi temple placed on a vehicle were on display. State 5 Ministry of Industry and Tourism with the support of the Siddhartha Hotel Association of Nepal (SAN) has launched the nationwide road show campaign to promote the Visit Lumbini Year. The formal announcement of the Visit Lumbini Year is taking place on coming May 18. The day marks the 2563rd Buddha Jayanti. According to programme coordinator, the publicity campaign aims to making the celebrations successful. The team which started their journey from Bhairahawa of Lumbini arrived Kathmandu via Butawal of Rupandehi; Tansen of Palpa; Putali Bazar of Syangja; Pokhara of Kaski and Damauli of Tahanu to extend invitation to the public for the Lumbini visit. At the exhibition organised in front of the Durbarmarga-based Narayanhiti Museum, the team from the Lumbini, lawmakers, former ministers and Kathmandu-based tourism entrepreneurs sought support from every quarters of life to make the event successful. The second phase programme under the campaign will cover Heatuda, Birgunj, Janakpur, Itahari and Mechi in the east while third-phase will include Dang, Nepalgunj, Mahendranagar and Surkhet. The fourth-phase will go beyond the border, reaching Kushinagar, Baneras, and Sarnath of India, the Visit Lumbini Year Main Organizing Committee said. —
