Kathmandu, July 22 (RSS): The government decision to recommend the name of former Chief Election Commissioner, Neel Kantha Upreti, as the ambassador to India is in line with the constitution.
The legal experts have stated that the provision of the Article 245 (8) of the Constitution does not contradict Upreti’s recommendation to the post as the recommended post was political not of the government service.
Former vice chair of the Nepal Bar Association Tikaram Bhattarai said that the Article of the Constitution contradicts to appoint the former chief election commissioner to the post of government service but the ambassadorial post is political therefore, the recommendation is constitutional.
Meanwhile, Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali has clarified that the recommendation was made as per the article 182 of the constitution.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers on July 16 had decided to recommend Upreti as the Nepali Ambassador to India.
