Teenage girls, women unite for self defense

Dhangadhi, Oct 6 ,,   The women and teenage girls here are getting united for the self defense in the wake of the growing violence meted out to them. They have enthusiastic participation in a self defense camp organized with the initiation of the National Gojoriyo Karate-Do Association.
The people extend curious look at the exercises of the women and girls in red T-shirts in the ground.
A participant Goma Acharya said the camp was organized to enable women for self defense. “It’s a new practice for protecting self in case of misbehaviour and attack. So, I joined it,” she added.
She further argued that the camp makes women physical fit to brave any assault. It is the exercise for the women, who are discouraged to speak loud and protest in the society, to be bold, she asserted.
As many as 100 excellent performers in the camp would be made trainers.
There are nearly 1,000 women in the camp to be continued for a week. Deputy Mayor of Dhangadhi Sub Metropolis, Sushila Mishra Bhatt said, “This exercise teaches the women and girls to kick properly so that they can ensure their safety.”
Similarly, Basanti Chaudhari of Women Rights Defenders’ Network at Dhangadi Chapter, observed, “This training is aimed at developing skills to ensure self defense and chase away anyone who misbehaves and make ill attempts.”
The camp was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Province 7, Trilochan Bhatt. The camp first paid tribute to the late Nirmala Pant by observing one-minute silence.
