Kathmandu, March 31 ,, The Gokarneswar municipality is to organise the Sundarijal-Bagdwar tourism festival on Baisakh 1, the first day of the new Nepali Year 2076. The festival is being organized by ward no. 1 of the municipality to promote the origin of Bagmati river and tourism in the region.
Bagmati starts from Bagdwar located on the border between Gokarneswar and Budanilakantha municipalities inside the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. It flows into the valley through the Gokarneswar Mahadev temple and is known as Bagmati throughout Nepal until merges into the Ganga river.
Bagdwar is an important religious pilgrimage site for a holy bath and a dip in the water source on Baisakh 1 is religiously believed to ward off one’s sin. Bagdwar can be reached from Sundarijal as well as from Budanilakantha. The festival is a continuity of the religious fair that used to take place at the ancient site since age-old times, according to ward no. 1 Chair Ram Manandhar.
During the festival, the costume and culture of the Tamang, Sherpa, Newar, Brahmin and Chettri community, who live in the area, will be showcased.
