Rs 5000 fine for charging one rupee in excess

Kathmandu, Oct 1,,  Any transport entrepreneur found charging even one rupee in excess of the public transport fare will be fined Rs. 5,000.
Accordingly the Department of Transport Management has appealed to travelers and passengers to inform the government authorities about any such irregularities. The complaints can be filed by mentioning the registration number of the vehicle at the Department’s telephone number 01-4479690 or by sending a fax to 01-4474922. Likewise, the complaints can also be registered in the Hello Sarkar room in toll free number 1111 or by email to 1111@opmcm.gov.np or info@dotm.gov.np. In the districts, the complaints can also be filed through all the 77 district administration offices or nearby traffic police offices.
Furthermore, Nepali Police toll free numbers 101 and 103 can also be used to register complaints about irregularities in pre-booking of bus and air tickets for upcoming Dashain festival and about charging of exorbitant fares.
Monitoring will be carried to check if the transport operators are charging excess than the determined fare, said the department spokesperson Gokarna Prasad Upadhyaya. As per the latest increment on September 23, the transport fare in bus is Rs. 14 for up to four kilometers distance, Rs. 16 up to five km, Rs. 17 up to six km, Rs. 26 up to 19 km and Rs. 27 for above 19 km. It applies in Kathmandu valley and local routes.
