Kathmandu, July 6 (RSS): The Office of the Dean, Faculty of Law, Tribhuvan University reintroduced the quota system in Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) first year under pressure from various teachers’ associations like Nepal Progressive Teachers Association, Democratic Teachers Association, Tribhuvan University Teachers Association, Nepal Law Campus Unit Committee and the Entrance Examination Committee for LL.B.
Earlier, the Law Faculty had decided to scrap the quota system in the LL.B programme and take new enrolment without entrance examination in an agreement with various students unions.
Dean of the Law Faculty Prof Dr Tara Prasad Sapkota in a statement said they scraped the earlier agreement with the students unions and re-enforced the quota system under pressure from various teachers’ unions.
As per the quota system, 800 seats have been allocated for Nepal Law Campus in Kathmandu, and 150 for other campuses outside the valley.
Meanwhile, the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), Nepal Law Campus protested against the quota system. “Students will be deprived to pursue law degree due to the quota system,” said the ANNFSU, Unite Committee Chairperson Hari Prasad Pangeni.
