PM Oli calls for celebrating the Constitution Day as national festival

Kathmandu, Sept 2 ,,   Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the Constitution Day should be celebrated as a national festival.
The Prime Minister in his address to a discussion programme organised by the Constitution Day Main Celebrations Committee today at the Ministry of Home Affairs called for observing the Day that marks the promulgation of the constitution achieved through people’s long struggle and sacrifices with great enthusiasm. “The Day remains as the country’s biggest national festival.”
“The Constitution Day should be taken and celebrated as a common festival of all of us because it guarantees our way towards the future by institutionalising the achievements for the respects to long struggle and sacrifices made towards that end,” the Prime Minister asserted.
As he said, the Day should not be limited to ritualistic celebrations; instead it should be reached to people’s level. “This is not like of celebrating a birthday of a particular individual, it must be celebrated in a distinct and special manner. The Day marks the promulgation of the constitution achieved by overcoming grave adversities.”
On the occasion, he directed bodies concerned to include curriculum about constitution in school text books and ensure the spontaneous creation of literary works on the topic by organising literary seminars on the issues of constitution and prosperity. He floated the idea of installing a monument to mark the Nepal’s Constitution in front of the Federal Parliament building.
A 33-member main celebration committee has been formed under the chairpersonship of Prime Minister Oli to mark Constitution Day that falls on Asoj 3 every year in the Nepali calendar and it is celebrated for three days. Members of the committee include Chief Justice, Speaker, National Assembly Chairperson, former President and Vice President, former Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, former Chief Justice and former Deputy Speaker.
Likewise, a 22-member publicity subcommittee has been formed under the leadership of Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota. A subcommittee to manage and decorate stage has been set up under the leadership of Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidya Sundar Shakya, and a committee to show a tableau and carry out a parade under the leadership of Chief District Officer of Kathmandu.
According to a programme schedule for the celebration, all government offices including metropolises and municipalities in the Kathmandu Valley on the first day of the festival will tidy up and decorate various locations within their reach by putting national flag.
Likewise, a special panel discussion on the constitution would be broadcast or published through national media, while the National Sports Council is scheduled to organise a marathon and a cricket tournament, and observe a diwali by lighting earthen lamps or candles.
A special ceremony will be held at the army pavilion, Tundikhel on the last day of the celebration (September 20) where dignitaries including President and Prime Minister will present. On the September 20 morning, Nepal Army is slated to blow trumpet. Likewise, tree plantations will take place in all 77 districts on September 20, and a blood donation programme will be held across the country in joint coordination with the Ministry of Health and Nepal Red Cross Society as part of the celebrations.
