People threatening human health are criminals: CM Raut

Janakpurdham, April ,, State 2 chief minister Lalbabu Raut has said those people threatening consumers’ health deserve stern punishment.
Inaugurating the State-level workshop on the status of consumers’ human rights here today, the chief minister described those drugging the edible goods with (formalin preservative for biological specimens) as killers.
He said it was a matter of concern that those people responsible for supplying unhygienic sweets (locally knows as gudpak) in Kathmandu and causing harms on consumers’ health in the past enjoyed impunity. “Such act needs to be taken as a crime and dealt with accordingly,” he asserted. He was of the view of taking legal intervention in the sale of sweets and meats in the open.
Janakpurdham sub-metropolis mayor Lal Kishore Shah sought the coordination, collaboration and uniformity among market monitoring mechanism. As he said, mass consumers have still no access to consumers’ education.
State 2 chief attorney Deependra Jha stated that the Consumers Protection Act has stated the responsibility of all for manufacturing and supply of quality goods. “The human rights of consumers have been becoming the issue of global debate.”
Dhanusha chief district officer Pradeep Raj Kandel vowed to ban the open sale of milk in the district.
Janakpurdham Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Lalit Saha; Consumers’ Rights Protection Forum Nepal’s chair Jyoti Baniya, and commission member Mohana Ansari were also present on the occasion. —
