Panchthar village enjoying wind, solar energy

Phidim, Panchthar, Jan 7,, Local people of Saptami bazaar in Panchthar district are enjoying an uninterrupted supply of electricity generated from a local wind and solar energy project.
A total of 70 kilowatts (20 kw from wind energy and 50 from solar) is being produced from the local wind and solar energy project which is enough to illuminate the village of around 100 houses. Approximately 110 houses of the surrounding villages are also availing of energy produced from the project.
Started from mid April, the project named Wind and Solar Mini Grid Project was completed in the last week of December. Now the project is being tested for production. The village will enjoy 24 hours of uninterrupted power once the test production is completed in the second week of January, said the project consumer committee.
Approximately Rs 45 million was spent on the project (over Rs 2 million from the committee, Rs 2.4 million from Miklajung Rural Municipality and Rs 40.5 million from the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre). Work to expand the transmission line in other areas is underway, and it will complete by mid-January, said the consumer committee’s chairperson Ganga Bahadur Angdembe.
