ISLAMABAD, July 5 (Xinhua) — The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Thursday named a total of 20,789 polling stations sensitive ahead of forthcoming general elections in the country.
The ECP said that they have set up 85,307 polling stations across the country for the elections to be held on July 25 where the public will elect their representatives from all four provinces of the country and the federal capital Islamabad.
The country’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province has the highest 7,386 number of sensitive polling stations, followed by south Sindh province where some 5,776 were declared vulnerable to attacks by rival groups, nationalist or militant elements.
The country’s east Punjab province has a total of 5,686 sensitive polling stations whereas southwest Balochistan province houses 1,768 sensitive polling stations, as per the ECP.
A total of 173 polling stations out of the total 360 in the federal capital of Islamabad have been declared prone to clashes between rival groups in the forthcoming elections, where a tough completion is expected between candidates of different political parties.
Earlier the ECP announced to install cameras in the sensitive polling stations where servicemen will also be deployed to avoid any untoward situation.
In some areas of the country, election day normally remains heated as hostile political rivals use force against each other to influence election results at their respective polling stations. Enditem
