Kathmandu, April 18 ,, Nepal’s dream of playing the 2020 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup has been shattered after United Arab Emirates defeated Oman by 10 wickets in today’s match of the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup Qualifier Asia 2019 in Malaysia. Nepal’s win over Kuwait in an upcoming match and UAE’s defeat against Oman are needed for Nepal to qualify for the World Cup.
Despite starting out impressively with a 217-run win over Singapore in its first match and moving ahead with good scores in following matches, Nepal lost to UAE by one run in the eleventh hour, which was detrimental for the team to make it to the World Cup. Winner was announced based on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method following cancellation of the match due to rains.
In previous matches, Nepal beat Malaysia and Oman by eight and 15 runs respectively. Even Nepal’s win over Kuwait in the upcoming match will not give it an excuse anyway for its failure to reach the World Cup. By points, UAE will play in the World Cup scheduled for next year in South Africa.
