Nepali Congress lawmakeru Dilendra Prasad Badu has called on the government to immediately withdraw the Guthi Bill. The bill was presented to the National Assembly, the Upper House in the bicameral Federal Parliament, a few days ago. On the onset of House of Representatives (HoR) session today, the NC leader was granted time to put his views before the meeting by Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara after lawmakers representing the main opposition Nepali Congress stood from their respective seats as a symbol of protest. The NC leader warned that the party would hit the street if the bill was not taken back. He informed the House session the party had reservations on the recent statement given by government Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Baskota, declaring the bill would not be withdrawn and today’s protest at the lower house was against the minister’s views. Stating that the minister publicly termed the Guthi, as a residue of feudalism, Badu accused the government of intending to eliminate religion, tradition, customs, culture, heritage and originality as it had been over excited on the back support of two-thirds majority. Lawmaker Laxmanlal Karna was of the view that the latest Public Service Commission vacancy announcements should be cancelled as they were called against the Article 42 of the Constitution.
