NC lambasts govt for preventing Vice Chancellor from attending foreign conference

Kathmandu, July 8(RSS): The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) objurgated the government move to prevent Vice Chancellor of Nepal Sanskrit University, Kul Prasad Koirala, and his team from taking part in the World Sanskrit Conference going to be held in Canada.
Taking a time in a meeting of the National Assembly, the upper house in the Federal Parliament, today, NC lawmaker Badri Prasad Pandey accused the government of demonstrating undemocratic character. A seven-member delegation to the Conference headed by NSU Vice Chancellor Koirala was taken under police control from Tribhuvan International Airport Saturday as the team was en route to Canada and straightly taken to the Prime Minister’s official residence.
The five-day 18th World Sanskrit Conference is kicking off from Monday. Nepal, the host of the 19th conference in 2024, was to put its views in the conference.
Today’s NA session continues deliberations on the Appropriation Bill and respective ministers are scheduled to reply queries raised by lawmakers regarding different headings (related to various ministries) of the bill.
Lawmakers are to get replies regarding their questions about Communications and Information Technology; Health and Population; Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives; Industry; Commerce and Supplies; Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs; Youth and Sports; Federal Affairs and General Administration; Home; Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation; Forest and Environment; and Science and Technology.
