Monkey terror in Dalgaun

Bhojpur, Nov 27,,   Locals of Dalgaun at Ram Prasad Rai rural municipality in Bhojpur district have been troubled by troupes of monkeys raiding their crops.
So much is the monkey terror that almost 10 families living on the fringes of the village have migrated out.
“It’s too much, these monkeys. Hordes of monkeys come to the village and destroy our crops. It was not like this in previous years but has gotten worse in recent days,” said Tek Bahadur Tamang, a local.
A person from a family has to spare the whole day to drive away the monkeys, he expressed his dismay.
Monkeys are said to raid the harvested maize and rice that is stored in stacks near the house and the fruits in the house garden.
The locals have complained that the monkey terror has become worse as they are not allowed by the local government to kill these apes.
“The monkey terror is on the rise in our village. They consume the crop that would feed us for a whole year if they got an hour’s opportunity to sneak in the settlement,” an exasperated Tirtha Bahadur Pradahan said. He demanded that the government should extend support to them to control the marauding monkeys.
He said that many families in the village have been displaced due to the monkey menace and expressed concern that the entire settlement would be deserted one day if people start migrating out at the present rate.
However, the rural municipality ward number 4 chair, Phaud Singh Karki said that the local government was mulling on a plan to check the monkey terror.
