Baitadi, Feb 14   ,,  Baitadi folks have handed over a memo to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, drawing the government’s attention to build a bridge at Jhluaghat that is long overdue.
A committee that was formed few days ago comprising locals to pile pressure on bodies concerned to build the bridge. The first survey of the bridge was conducted in 2055 BS.
The Committee handed over the memo to the PM through Chief District Officer Chandra Prasad Gaire on Wednesday. The locals in Baitadi that adjoins India have been using suspension bridge constructed by the East India Company some 150 years ago, shared Baitadi Chamber of Commerce President and Committee’s Coordinator Nar Bahadur Chand.
The paths to prosperity of hilly and mountainous districts in the far western region of the country have been blocked in absence of a proper motorable bridge. Jhulaghat is the last spot of the Mid-Hilly highway as well as bordering checkpoint with India.
Many of the Heads of Government in the past had pledged to build the bridge in Jhulaghat while many politicians had cashed in the bridge as a vote bank during the elections but none walked the talk, lamented Chand.
A local business person Birendra Raj Pandey expressed his confidence that the economic activities would boom and it would help change the face of Jhulaghat would get the bridge.
The locals in Baitadi have warned that they would launch protest programmes if the process of constructing bridge does not progress.
