Diarrhoea taking week long toll on rural Gulmi village yet to be contained

Tamghas, Gulmi, April 26  ,,  A diarrhoea epidemic plaguing a rural village of Gulmi district for the past week is yet to come under control. Over 100 people have taken ill from the disease so far, and the number is on the rise, said local representative Hari Chhantyal. Water supply to the village of Dajakot in Musikot municipality-4 housing 85 households has become polluted causing the disease, said the locals.
The patients collapsed and vomited and are suffering from diarrhoea and headache, said public health officer Mahesh Shrestha at the District Public Health Office (DPHO), Gulmi. Of the patients, one is being treated at Gulmi hospital, Tamghas, one at Gautam Buddha Hospital in Butwal and others at the local health facilities, it has been said.
Local Pashupati Lower Secondary School has also shut after its students fell ill from the disease, said the school administration. Following the disease outbreak, a DPHO team reached the affected village and treated the patients before returning yesterday (Thursday).
