Basu Shahsi’s contributions commemorated

Kathmandu, March 27 ,,  Prolific litterateur Basu Shashi was commemorated for his contributions to the enrichment of literature through the medium of Nepal language and Nepali language.
On his 83rd birth anniversary celebrations in the capital on Tuesday, various speakers recalled the late Shashi as a literary personality with dignity.
Noted poet and playwright Shahsi had over 25 books and collections in the genre of poetry, drama, novels and translated texts in his credit.
Besides, his contributions to the literary work included translation of prominent books of English and Nepali, film scripts and dialogue and lyrics.
‘Jhumi Yamha Manu’ and ‘Tacha Pwanya’ are popular drama he composed in Nepal language. Likewise, Shahsika Natak, Sanchoko Jhuppa and Buddha, among others are his remarkable plays in Nepali language. His novels ‘Phul Oilaepachi’ and ‘Sansarma Sabbhanda Eklo Jeev’ are his other crucial creations.
At the programme organised by Basu Shashi Memorial Council, culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi remembered him as a literary writer with high esteem whose contributions to the enhancement of literature through writings in Nepal, Nepali and English languages are special.
Moreover, his contributions to the formation of the then Royal Nepal Academy and construction of its existing building are worth remembering.
Also on the same occasion, Joshi honoured novelist Shreedhar Khanal, Gyan Udas, Bhagirathi Shrestha, Kalpana Pradhan and Shrestha Priya Patthar with the Basu Shashi Literature Award-2075 BS.
Council Chair Ganesh Rasik said various programmes are being organised to immortalize multi-dimensional contributions of Basu Shahi. So far, the Council has published 24 literary creations and honoured 30 literary writers. —
