1,100 Dalit family houses left stranded

Dolpa, April 21 ,,  A total of 1,100 houses in Dolpa being constructed under the Janata Awas programme have been left stranded. The houses in Tripurakot Ralli of ward no. 1 of Tripura Sundari municipality remain incomplete after the second installment for the same was not released.

The Janata Awas programme is run by the government for providing housing facilities to the low income Dalit communities. This programme is under implementation around the country. Of the total 1,100 Dalit families eligible for the funds, many received the first installment of Rs. 50,000. However, no funds have been released since the past two years, leaving our home stranded, said Tanka Sunar of Ruma in ward no. 2 of the municipality.

As a result, only the foundation work of the houses has been completed. Meanwhile, some have also complained of not receiving the first installment.
Staff at the Federal Unit Office Gopal Sarki said the programme is now under the responsibility of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure. The progamme has been implemented in then nine village development committees of Dolpa.
